Sun protection for hair is just as essential as it is for skin. UV rays from the sun cause irreparable damage that leads to dry, frizzy strands with split ends and frazzled ends.
By adding a nourishing hair oil with sun protection into your summer regimen, you can help protect against sun-induced damage to your scalp and hairline. Many products come in spray or mist form for easy application on both. This way, no greasy residue remains after using this product!
1. Argan Oil
Argan Oil is an ideal natural way to provide protection from sun damage in hair oil or serum form. Packed full of Tocopherols/Vitamin E, Antioxidants and Omega Fatty Acids that lighten dark spots caused by UV radiation damage, Argan Oil can effectively lighten dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation or dark spots caused by sun damage.
Ideal as both a summer skin and body moisturizer and natural sunscreen, Aloe Vera juice acts to neutralize free radicals by inhibiting melanocyte proliferation while neutralizing them against UV Radiation’s damaging effects.
Due to scientific uncertainty regarding many of Argan Oil’s purported health benefits and concerns regarding its oxidative stability and authenticity (68), JOSIE MARAN only utilizes 100% Pure Argan Oil certified organic by Women’s Co-Operatives in Morocco using traditional production methods (from nuts to bottle). JOSIE MARAN only sources 100% Pure Argan Oil as this guarantees high quality and nutritional integrity of her oil source from nuts through to bottle.
2. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is an emollient, or substance which softens and smooths hair and skin, providing relief from UV rays damage while acting as a barrier. Furthermore, it contains vitamin E and B complex vitamins for maintaining healthy hair and skin.
Jojoba oil is extracted by cold pressing seeds from Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba), with molecular structure remaining undisturbed during extraction. Due to this method of production, its molecular makeup remains more similar to wax than true vegetable oils and thus less vulnerable to rancidification.
Silica and fatty acids found in clay provide excellent protection for scalp and hair from heat damage, and makes an excellent base for essential oils. Furthermore, its multifaceted natural nature means it can also be used as a facial cleanser, makeup remover, cuticle oil or sun protection hair oil product.
3. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has become one of the hottest hair care ingredients, but does it deserve its popularity? Not necessarily – although its nutritional benefits make it worth trying! Coconut oil contains healthy saturated fats and antimicrobial properties which kill bacteria which cause various scalp conditions, including thinning hair, dandruff, eczema and cellulitis.
These products offer SPF 8 protection; however, it will not prevent sun damage as effectively. It should instead be used as a pre-wash protector, conditioner and frizz fighter.
If you have fine or thin hair, it is best to avoid applying too much coconut oil as this could weigh it down. People with oily scalps should only use it sparingly and may prefer heating it before applying.
4. Sunflower Oil
Sunflowers offer more than just pretty blooms; they also contain powerful beauty-enhancing nutrients! Sunflower seeds contain oil that contains an abundance of essential vitamins to nourish and revitalize both hair and skin health.
Sunflower Oil, an increasingly popular cooking oil and processed food ingredient, has contributed to an exponential rise in omega-6 intake [*].
This oil contains naturally high levels of vitamin E – providing approximately 40% of the daily recommended allowance in one tablespoon. It has been noted for protecting skin against sun damage and aging by lightening unwanted tanning spots or evening out skin tone, soothing dry or irritated skin conditions and acting as massage oil.
5. Rosemary Oil
Rosemary Oil, extracted through steam distillation from Rosmarinus officinalis plants, boasts antiseptic, astringent, stimulating, antioxidant, and tonic properties that make it an invaluable ingredient for protecting hair against heat treatments, hair dryers and curling irons. Furthermore, it helps preserve natural color of hair strands while acting as an all-natural conditioner on both scalp and strands.
Purportedly stimulating follicles and improving hair growth by strengthening strands, reducing dandruff, itchy scalps, as well as providing early stage thinning areas with early stimulation of dormant follicles that may have fallen asleep; along with keeping moisture balance within your scalp while providing UV radiation protection.
As with other essential oils, rosemary oil should be highly diluted and applied sparingly to avoid skin irritation. Mix a few drops with carrier oils like coconut or jojoba oil before applying it directly onto your scalp and strands.
